About Paula Davis
“Adornment is a reflection of the heart. Jewelry has always been a part of human history. I believe that jewelry has at its core elements of beauty, remembrance, self-expression, status and fashion. It plays an intimate and familiar part of our lives, and reveals something about the wearer, as well as the artist who creates it. My inspiration comes from the gemstones I work with, architecture, nature, and my travels. Many of my designs evolve from commissions. I enjoy the synergy of working with a person to create that special, individual piece of jewelry. I work in wax as well as metal and do all the design work myself. There is always something new to try. The earth provides an infinite palate of color and materials to work into pieces that delight the eye and the wearer.”
Paula has always loved making things; weaving, macramé, clay and paper collage. While working on her BFA at Stephen F. Austin University, she took a jewelry class and was hooked. It appealed to her practical side – jewelry is useful and beautiful. After college she worked for several custom jewelers in Ft. Worth and Dallas, Texas and learned the real art and craft of fine jewelry.
In 1985 she moved to Lubbock and began freelance work for local jewelers and developed a following of personal clients. A passion for colored stones and diamonds motivated her to become a Graduate Gemologist.
She was honored to have been included in “Texas Originals”, a group of only 30 Texas artists selected by the Texas Commission for the Arts. She has won awards for her jewelry in Texas and in Colorado and her jewelry is in private collections across the country. About 10 years ago, she made Santa Fe, NM her permanent home. If she is not working you will find her out hiking.
