About Janet Sherman
Janet Sherman began designing and making jewelry in her early teens. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in metal working from Carnegie Mellon University, and has studied under various specialized experts. After graduating from college, she took a position with a manufacturing jewelry in the Washington, D.C. area, where she soon became chief designer and goldsmith.
Janet established her Florida studio in July 1988. She has since been voted a full member of the Artisans’ Guild in Gainesville, where her work is also shown at the Center for Modern Art. While Janet continues to create customized pieces for her private clientele, her unique award winning designs can also be seen in a growing number of select galleries and shops across the country.
In the brief time since striking out on her own, Janet’s work has been featured in several private gallery showings, and has been selected for exhibition in a number of juried shows, including “The great Gulf Coast Arts Festival” in Pensacola and “Dimensions ‘89/Lenexa” in Kansas City. In the winter of 1989 she was commissioned to craft the annual patrons award for the Florida State Museum and she was honored with an “Award of Distinction” at the 1990 “Spring Arts Festival” in Gainesville. In addition, Janet and her “wearable art” have appeared in a variety of magazine and newspaper articles.
