About Alice Abrams

Picture
Today I find myself seeking elegance of form, searching for purity of line and inspired by the unique counterpoint required of an artful design, sometimes a precious diamond, sometimes a semi-precious stone.  Intricate encrustation of surface and complexity of technique are not part of my involvement today.  I seek a permanent sculptural quality for my jewelry and attempt, on occasion, to find a continuum for them as living sculpture for wall or pedestal.

I do not design in the two dimensional world of sketch, but work directly in the material where all potential lies, gold being the perfect medium possessing great malleability and ductility.  The act of creation for me is the development of intrinsic properties from the material coupled with the three dimensional spatial vision I experience, where all aspects fo the piece that is viewed are essential.  This mode of designing allows the material an expression of its own.
